The Final Surrender

2020

Unreal Engine | iClone | Daz | Move One

One of the projects I always touted when discussing the power of creating cinematics in Unreal  was a war film. War is one of those subjects that's incredibly challenging to tackle on a low-budget...not to mention it's a logistical nightmare even when you have money. That's why I was excited to use a chaotic World War II battle as the backdrop for this cinematic test.

The two main elements I was eager to play with were Metahuman Animator and Move One. I wanted to combine them to animate the main soldiers (background soldiers used animation packs).

It mostly worked. Move One animations were a little jittery for me which needed smoothing out in iClone. The smoothing started to affect the fluidity of the mocap but it was fine for this test. Move One just launched so I expect it will only get better. That said, it was really convenient recording mocap quickly and easily without having to put on the suit or monitor the computer. Not bad for a single iPhone!
